Cookbooks were very popular in the early part of the 20th. Century but they used artist-illustrated color lithography, instead of modern color photos, to effectively show how the dishes were supposed to look. The artists skillfully created illustrations for these cookbooks that conveyed the composition of the particular dish but they were also very successful doing it in a style that made the dish visually and aesthetically appealing as well.
