Charles Lucien Bonaparte Iconographie des Pigeons 1857
Charles Lucien Bonaparte Iconographie des Pigeons 1857
Considered among the finest books ever published on the subject of pigeons, this work was intended to form a supplement to Mme. Knip's "Les Pigeons" but "ranks as a completely separate work (Fine Bird Books)." "The hand-colored bird portraits are extremely fine (McGill/Wood)."

Folio, 13 7/8" x 21 3/4" overall measurement, red cloth binding in very good condition, 54 of 55 hand-colored lithographed plates after and by Paul Louis Oudart, F. Willy and E. Blanchard, printed by Lemercier, light spotting on approximately 15 plates, top of spine slightly bumped, binding tight. References: Ayer/Zimmer 78, Fine Bird Books 60, McGill/Wood 248, IVB 117: Nissen, SBVB 57.

EXTREMELY RARE (the last time I saw this book for sale, Heritage Books of Los Angeles had it for $11,500). **These images are digitally watermarked, but the electronic watermarks do not appear on the actual prints** Certificate of authenticity available at no extra charge upon request.

PLEASE NOTE: To view more photos of the plates and of the binding, click on "Details" at the upper right corner of this description.
